Expansion of Idea

Expansion of Ideas

Expansion of idea is to elaborate or expand an idea in a paragraph form.

Paragraph: A Para is necessarily a series of connected sentences which develops one topic sentence.

Topic sentence: It is a subject/proposition/ statement expressed in a sentence. A good topic sentence is brief and encapsulates the central theme.

Ideally it is written in three parts-

(1) Introductory para-The given idea needs to be well evaluated and interpreted accordingly.

(2) Core content-This is most creative part to demonstrate your language skill. Explore perspectives, give instances, experiences or even personal experience, there should be unity and clarity of thoughts, maintain logical link between two distinct points, avoid too many ideas.

(3) Concluding para- Sum up with strong and relevant point. Use appropriate proverb or quotation at the end of last paragraph.

(Note: Topic sentence can never be removed from a paragraph.)

Expand the idea inherent in the following proverb-

Travel Broadens the Mind

Travelling is the best form of education, as learning from the environment is more effective. If you live all your life in the same place, you are like the proverbial frog in a well. You become narrow-minded. You do not know what the world outside is truly like. There is no doubt that travelling broadens the mind and enlivens the spirit.

Apart from viewing of natural and historical sights, travelling enables a person to meet different people and study their customs, modes of dressing, culture and languages at close quarters. Meeting different people makes a person broad-minded and tolerant.

Travelling brings people closer and broadens one's outlook. It removes prejudices and helps a person to become a citizen of the world in the true sense. Therefore, never lose any opportunity to travel. It will be an experience well worth the time and money spent on it. The world is a book and he who stays at home reads only one page.

A Bad Workman Always Blames His Tools

People can generally be classified into two groups those who have talents and those who have not. A really talented person succeeds in his work. He makes use of his abilities properly and achieves good results. He is confident of doing his work. He uses his tools in the right way, even if they are not excellent.

At the same time, if a badly talented person even if given excellent tools, fails to achieve good results. His talents are limited. He tries to find lame excuses for his failure to achieve good results. He blames his tools for the bad work he has done. He does not want to admit that he is a bad workman. He deliberately forgets the fact that his talents are limited. Even if good opportunities are provided for the less talented person, he fails to exploit such chances and succeed in life.

But if the talented person is given the right opportunity, he makes use of it to the full, thereby achieving his goal in life. While the former blames the opportunities and people around him for his failure, the latter without complaint utilizes them and succeeds in life.

One should eat to live, not live to eat

One of the greatest England Philosopher Benjamin Franklin has coined this statement in favor of the people who give most importance to the food rather than the duty.

In society we can find both types of persons. One gives importance to the foods. I believe that eating should not be our favorite activity but something must do to maintain not only our health but also our society.

Food, clothe, shelter and education are considered the basic need of the people. Food must be taken as only a source of energy. Though food is essential part of life but we should not live for food only. As being a member of society it is our prime duty to do something generous for our society and its development. Our life must be a beacon light for the people and should be realized by our deeds. Food can’t be mentioned as a core element of one’s life. Life is beautiful and it has various scopes so we it’s aspect must be enjoyed by everyone. Excessive food gives us obesity which creates a way for unhealthy life.

Those who ‘live to eat’ view food as something more in there’s life than just a fuel. When food takes on greater meaning than its nutrients we start running into troubles. So I suggest that eat for nourishment not as a pleasure in life.
