SPEECH WRITING FOR XI & XII CLASS

COMPILED BY-DR. SALUNKHE T. B.

SPEECH:

How to prepare an effective speech?

Introduction:

As man is a social being, he has to establish and maintain relationship with other people for various reasons. This can be done through the process of conversation. A conversation is a communication by two or more people, often on a particular topic. It is an ideal form of communication in some respect, since they allow people with different views of a topic to learn from each other.

A speech is one of the ways of communication. The speech occupies a vital place in all fields of our life. It is a multipurpose activity. It is an oral presentation by one person directed at a group. It is a goal oriented phenomenon. Therefore, one has to be clear, conscious and systematic in the preparation of his or her speech. It is used to motivate, to inform, to alert, to persuade, to gain the support and so on. Hence one must be aware of the following points while preparing the speech:

1. Determining the purpose

2. Sensible

3. Persuasive

4. Proper use of language

Beginning of the speech: The students should begin their script of speech with suitable salutation or greeting like 'Good morning everybody....!, Good morning to one and all.....!, and then the expressions like 'Respected principal, teachers, chief guest and my friends.... should be used.

(The topic of the speech should not be declared instantly after salutation or greeting)

Introduction: In the introduction, within a short time (with two or three sentences in written form) we have to invite the readers to the subject of our speech. We can begin either a challenging question or drastic statement or interesting quotation or funny joke etc. The speaker can also show the picture related to topic and ask question to the readers. It is necessary for the writer or the orator to make sure whether his or her opening leads to the subject of his/her speech.

Main Body of the Speech: After introduction, the writer of the script of the speech should introduce the topic on which he/she is going to prepare a draft of speech. Then,  we should make our most important points first so that the readers or audience know what it is. It is possible that we may have a number of points in our mind; in such situation one must make a list of the points in our order of priority. Some key words, phrases, expressions should be repeated to accomplish our purpose. Moreover, to make a speech lucid, smooth and systematic, we must use discoursal features like first, second, next, then, finally, consequently, eventually, etc.

Conclusion: The conclusion is our last chance to complete our target. The conclusion depends on our type of purpose. Here we can restate our ideas, use a quotation from a famous person. We need to suggest some solutions or remedies.

Ending:  We must thank you the audience and the organizers.

Prepare a short speech to be delivered before your class on “Eye Donation.”

Ans: Eye Donation

Good morning everybody…..!

Have you ever heard the name of John Milton in English literature? What is peculiar about him? You know he had gone completely blind in his adulthood. Do you know how painful is the blindness? Just try to shut your eyes for a moment…….What do you feel? Horrible, restlessness and uneasiness……. Only darkness! How long did that darkness last? For a moment! Can you imagine the condition of those people who suffer from blindness forever?

My friends, what is blindness all about? Today they call it ‘Visual Impairment.’ Can we help to solve this problem? Are you aware of the number of blind in India alone?

Friends, we who are blessed with the gift of Vision should do something ……

It is our social responsibility to try and reduce these numbers and the only way we can do that is by Donating our Eyes.

Friends, you can also help by joining voluntary organizations to promote Eye Donation.

Friends, you can bring light into the world of the Visually Impaired. Spread the word, create awareness, and persuade people to commit themselves to this act of Charity.

If you love humanity you will pledge your Eyes.

I thank you all respected dignitaries, my friends, chief guest and everybody who are present here.
