The life of the cherry tree was really threatened because of goats, grass cutters, monsoon blight which may cause a plant a disease. Moreover, the poet did not personally care or pay attention to the cherry tree still it grew up facing all these odds.

3. to provide food for animals
4. to develop land of construction

The figure of speech in this line is 'Personification' as a tree is given human quality. other examples:

'The young tree struggled'.... The young tree is personified by giving it the human quality of struggling.
The sleepiest breeze'....The breeze is personified.
'singing crickets'.....Crickets are personified.
'The young tree....thrust/Its arms in a fresh fierce lust'... The young tree is personified as it expresses its 'lust' like a human being.
